Debra Dolsberry
Beginning and Intermediate Painting on Silk

Ongoing by Appointment:
Teacher:
Debra Dolsberry
About the Teacher: I have been painting on Silk since 1997 and loving every minute.  I do both "just colors on silk" - a perfect introduction for non-artists to the medium - and simple motifs using a gutta serti technique.  In all my classes, colors are applied with a brush (as opposed to tie dye or batik or marbelling where fabric is dipped in dye) since I like the control the brush gives me.  I provide all the dyes and materials needed.
Location:
My home studio above the Kona Airport

Debra Dolsberry at 808-987-5251

Silk Painting
Level (of student experience in the medium or craft):
Non artist through intermediate
Day & Time of Classes:
By appointment.  I'm available most days except Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Classes are 5 hours long - I suggest 10 am to 3 PM, but that can be modified to suit the student
Refreshments: Lunch included with tea and chocolate snack
Cost:
$90 each for 2-3 students. $150 for private lesson.
Other Information:

Included in each class are 2 silk scarves 11 x 60 in the student's choice of crepe, chiffon, or satin, all dyes and supplies needed including use of an apron.  Students only need to bring themselves.

In all classes I teach how to create texture within the design - my main focus in my own art including use of different kinds of salts, dye thickeners, diluents, alcohol and dye on dye to modify the design.  You can see photos of my work at my website.  The "Classes" tab will show examples of "just color" scarves.  You can also visit my silk and fruit booth any Wednesday at the Ho'oulu Farmer's Market at the Keauhou Beach Resort on Alii Drive 10am-3pm (www.hooulufarmersmkt.com).
